According to a news item posted on ANN (that I somehow totally missed when it was first posted), Ashita no Nadja is listed among a number of titles from Toei that are currently being dubbed into English for release in the US! Take a look:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-09-21/toei-william-winckler-prod-rioloco-dub-23+features

They call it "The Adventures of Nadja" and seem to have split it up into 2 seasons.

OMG, I am crazy excited! All sorts of questions immediately come to mind -- will this be dub only? Who is the dub cast? (They mention one cast member so far). Is this truly licensed, or just a demo that is being shopped around? Either way, chances for a Region 1 release in some form or other suddenly look a lot better!

Woo hoo! :D

EDIT: I should make clear that this isn't a release of the full TV series (though who knows, this may be possible?) but rather, what looks to be two feature-length films made from spliced-together episodes. At this point, it's probably better than nothing, and I am curious to see what filler they would cut out. And who knows, maybe someday we'll get a real release...

The article seems to imply that the series listed are being turned into movie-length features, so I don't think they're dubbing the whole series. But if they did a good job with cutting down the episodes so that they made sense and had a clear storyline, and if the cast is good, I think this would be amazingly fun to watch :D

I'm excited to see how this goes! Thank you for linking the article! ^_^

If they're really going to splice them together into movies, no good can come from that. -_-;;; Other companies have tried this splicing thing a long time ago (the 90s) and they were horrible, terrible abominations. Nadja and all these other classics deserve so much more than to be spliced together! :( And just think of the length of these series! I mean, Nadja is like 40+ eps. long, right? How can you possibly condense a story like that into the length of the movie?
The company doing this seems to be pretty disinterested. I mean, if they really did care at all about producing a quality product, they would release these series as actual series. If this is really what they're intending to do, the series will be a cheap, hack job thrown together w/out much care for quality work.
This is a worse fate for a series than never being licensed at all! I really hope that's not what they intend to do. If so, this makes me very, very sad.

Oh, that really sucks, that the company doesn't really seem to care :( In that case, I do agree with you ;__; Nadja is just such a good show and it really deserves better than this :

Yeah, I was reading some of the comments on ANN about this news and it just sounds like they really don't care at all. I mean, they've got the guy who played Eddy Munster on the classic sitcom "The Munsters" listed. It's just really strange.

I really, REALLY hope that's not the case. I hope it's just that people are misreading this. I really do. -_-;;

I for one will NOT be watching these so-called "movies".

Sure, I'll probably check 'em out IF they ever actually get done/released, but afterwards, I'll probably disown it completely.

This is a BEAUTIFUL series (I've got 49 episodes downloaded, and I'm just waiting for the final one to be released.) and it deserves SO much more then to be turned into some cutesy fluff for 4 year old girls. I love the music, the original voices and the entire storyline.

I can just IMAGINE how badly they'll destroy it when/IF they DO do this. Anyone remember how badly DiC destroyed Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon? Yeah. It'll be a lot like that, probably. Even worse, if they're just splicing together random episodes.

You know, on second thought....I'm not even going to watch these movies, OR support them in any way/shape or form.

I fucking hate companies here in the U.S. who still hold onto the ancient idea that any kind of animation is meant for little kids/girls. It pisses me off to no end. This is why there are VERY few english dubs that I actually enjoy watching.

I loved the dub of Fushigi Yugi since they pretty much did that series word for word. Cowboy Bebop was ok, to an extent.

There are one or two others, but my Ashita no Nadja deserves SO much more. A faithful dub, uncut, with dual-audio with subtitles and a beautiful box set would be perfect in my eyes.
